Thomas began practicing martial arts in his youth, studying Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Kung Fu and Thai Boxing and later discovered Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), which he started training in 1997. He started with one of the first groups of BJJ Teams in London, UK and within one of the competing against some of the early pioneers of the sport in Europe. This later led to his introduction to Jose 'Ze' Marcello Rodrigues, a Brazilian former World and Pan American Champion under whom he earned his Black Belt becoming the first Chinese to do so living in Hong Kong / China. Thomas has been a chief instructor of BJJ in Hong Kong since 2002 and is credited with fostering the sport here. His experience has also led him to be an advisor and referee in many professional Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) shows in Hong Kong, Macau and China.

 

Many of Thomas's students under his Team - KylinBJJ, have successfully gone on to take part in regional and international BJJ / Submission Grappling and MMA torunaments. As well as teaching martial arts and conditioning. Thomas is also an Osteopath by profession, treating musculo-skeletal pain and junjuries in Hong Kong.
